Obituary – Lillian S. Verbanac

Lillian S. Verbanac, age 96, of L’Anse, MI passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at UP Health System, Portage. She was born in Kenal, South Dakota on April 6, 1922, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ester (Demery) Cadotte. Lillian came to the U.P. as a small child, and graduated from L’Anse High School. She lived her lif in the Synamite Hill area. Lillian married Stave Verbanac on January 10, 1939, and they were blessed with 12 children. Over the years, Lillian’s home was open to the elderly, disabled, foster children – 15 all in need of a friend. God bless us all. Lillian had worked at Baragaa County Memorial Hospital for 15 years as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Assinins, St Rita’s Circle of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, South Dakota and the Ladies Auxilliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mrs. Verbanac is survived by her loving children, Steve Verbanak of Fairbanks, AK, Joe (Rose Mary) Verbanac of South Dakota, Robert (Sharon) Verbanac of AZ, Lyle (Colleen) Verbanac of L’Anse, Rita (Larry) Lanham of AZ and Virginia (Bill) Ishida of AZ, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, brother Clifford Rough of South Dakota and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 16, 2002, her son Gerald her daughter Carol, grandsons Shawn and Michael and brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Assinins, MI with Father Dustin Larson celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 am to the time of the Mass. Immediately following Mass, interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery and then a luncheon will be held at the church.

The family would like to give special thanks to Nancy and Jennifer and Baraga County Home Care staff.
