Obituary: Lillian S. Ahola

Lillian S. Ahola, age 88, of L’Anse, MI and formerly of Covington, MI passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at Bayside Village, L’Anse with her family by her side. She was born in Covington, MI on February 22, 1930 the daughter of the late Ilmi Hakkarainen. Lillian proudly graduated from L’Anse High School in 1970. She married Alvar Ahola on April 20, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2000. Lillian was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington and the Covington VFW #8945 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, doing cross word and word search, playing Scrabble, putting together jigsaw puzzles, making “snow bank” mittens and other articles of clothing usually without the need of a pattern. She loved her vegetable garden and refused to drink any water other than well water.

Lillian is survived by her loving children Howard (Judi) Ahola of Chesapeake, Virginia, Linda (Jim) Dougovito of L’Anse, Lois Ahola of Baraga, Alden (Laurie) Ahola of Watton, Robert Ahola of L’Anse and Karl “Gux” Ahola (Kerri Dompier) of L’Anse. 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, brother Roy (Mary) Norman of Watton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral services for Lillian will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Michael Carriere and Pastor Richard Little officiating. The family will greet friends at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel on Friday at 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The Covington VFW #8945 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service at 10:45 a.m. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering room, located at the funeral home. Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
