Lillian Jean Marie (Luukko) (Lahti) Johnson a resident of Bayside Village in L’Anse passed away on October 28, 2024 at age of 101.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 12, 1922 and placed in the Good Will Farm Orphanage in Houghton, Michigan. She was adopted by a Finnish couple, Toivo and Lempi Luukko of Keweenaw Bay when she was three months old. Lillian attended school in Keweenaw Bay through eighth grade. Living on the family farm, milking and feeding cows, and always enjoying her pet kitty was her pastime,
“Lily Jean” married Wilho Lahti on May 10, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1978. Lillian worked as a nurse’s aid at Winkler’s Nursing Home in L’Anse for fourteen years. She remarried on December 30, 1978 to Kaino Johnson of Pelkie. She said the marriage was “far too short” when Kaino died of heart failure in 1988.
Lillian was a member of the L’Anse Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Surviving her, is her son Ronald (Fran) Lahti of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren: James, Jeanette, Marci, Naomi and Steven, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents Toivo and Lempi Luukko, and husbands Wilho Lahti and Kaino Johnson.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 2nd from 10-11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Halonen will officiate. Burial will follow in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery.
