Lila Lemmikki Lehto, age 101 of Aura, MI passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Bayside Village in L’Anse.
She was born January 29, 1918 in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada daughter of Helmi (Koppana) and Matt Saari. Lila was raised in Pequaming and graduated from L’Anse high school in 1936, She married Hugo Lehto on November 11, 1939. In 1956 they moved to Negaunee, then later to Ishpeming where she worked as a real estate agent after her husband’s retirement. In 2000 she moved back to Aura to enjoy her many relatives and friends. She danced her way into her 90s and often said that it was something wonderful to look forward to every week. She was able to do some traveling and loved being in Aura in the home where she was raised. Lila enjoyed needlework, sewing, upholstering, gardening, berry picking, fishing, and was interested in everything. She was also an excellent cook and bread baker. Music was her life and she was influential on passing that on to her family.
Surviving are her sons, Kenneth (Karen) Lehto of Green Bay, Hugo (Rene) Lehto of Aura, Joseph Lehto of Aura; daughters, Karen (Robert “Ed”) Dobson of Ishpeming, Lila Jean Schiltz of Green Bay, Mari (Norman) Stanaway of Negaunee; 16 grandchildren, Larissa (Trent) Powell, Kami (Jason) Wein, Brad (Jan Daniels) Lehto, Lauren (Tim) Dillon, Norman (Beth) Stanaway, Tommy Stanaway, Paula (Mike) Roth, Theresa (Jim) Bianco, Melissa (Jim) Newland, Andrea Olsen, Stefanie (Jody) Hakes, Roger Schiltz, Jamie (Alex) Toreres, Holly (Paul) Lehto, Stephen (Debra) Dobson, Robbie (Susan) Dobson; 32 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Hugo; brothers Aimo Saari, Ralph Turpeinen; and sister Violet Saari.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 12th from 11-1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. Burial will be in the Aura Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Aura Fire Hall.
