Calumet: Leslie Sapino, 70, of Calumet, passed away at the VA Medical Center in Tomah, WI on December 14, 2020.
He was born on April 9, 1950, a son of Lawrence and LaVerna Sapino. He attended Washington Grade School and Calumet High School, where he was active inthe ROTC. He enlisted in the Army Airborne, and served 2 tours in Vietnam. Later, he worked as an oil rig welder in Mississippi.
Leslie had been a member of the VFW in Minnesota. He liked to ride Harley’s and to travel.
He was preceded by: son-Christian John Sapino, parents, and brothers-Mario and Russell.
He is survived by: sister-Angela (Rick) Daubman; brother-Lionel (Laura) Sapino; daughters-Tiffany Stahl and Cherish (Jacob) Townsend; son-Thomas John Damrow; grandchildren-Triston Dye, Avery Dye, Wesley Cisneros, Readen Townsend, Aiden Sapino, and Blake Sapino; sisters-in-law-Karen and Mary; along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 22, from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at the Peace Funeral Home in Lake Linden, with a Funeral Liturgy to follow at 2 P.M. the funeral home, with Fr. Joseph Boakye Yiadom to officiate. State COVID guidelines will be followed and masks will be required.
The graveside service of Military Rites will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 25, in the Veterans section of the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet, led by the Copper Country Veterans Association. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
