Leona M. Delene, age 80 of Watton, MI, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Watton on May 14, 1943 the daughter of the late Toivo “Dave” and Julia (Laturi) Maki. Leona graduated from L’Anse High School in 1961. On May 27, 1964 she married Stuart Delene at Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington. Leona had been employed at the former Watton Co-op and was very involved in working on the family farm, driving the tractor and raking hay. She loved the farm life. Leona was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Leona is survived by her loving husband Stuart Delene of Watton, sons Scott Delene of Watton, John (Angela) Delene of Colorado, James (Julie) Delene of Wisconsin, and Thomas (Jennifer) Delene of Watton, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers David (Laurice) Maki of WI, Clyde (Sandy) Maki of MI, Robert Maki and Gerald Maki both of Watton, sisters Shirley (Mike) Howard of CO, Judy Timm of FL, and Karen (Greg) Lazzari of Watton. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Leona will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Covington with Pastor Timothy Steckling officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral services, interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. A luncheon will then be held at the church.
