Leon (Lee) D Olmsted, age 73, a resident of Sidnaw, MI passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Bayside Village, L’Anse, MI. He was born on April 10th, 1944 in Lapeer, Michigan, the son of the late Edgar and Myrtle (McAllister) Olmsted. Lee attended elementary and high school in Suttons Bay, graduating in 1962. He attended Michigan Tech in Houghton. Lee honorably served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he worked the family cherry farm in Suttons Bay and also as a carpenter until he retired. He had always enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping in the UP, and after retirement moved to Sidnaw, Michigan where he continued to enjoy the outdoors with his many friends in the area. Lee was a lifelong member of the 1st Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay and also a member of the VFW. Cheryl Franti of Sidnaw, Michigan was a long time friend who cared for Lee during his illness and has been entrusted with his final arrangements. The family is very grateful to everyone who looked out for and helped Lee during these last years.
Mr. Olmsted is survived by his brother Gerald (Jerry) E Olmsted of Suttons Bay, Michigan and sister Linda L Welsh of Green Valley, Arizona. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law.
Spring graveside services are planned for Suttons Bay, Michigan.
