Obituary: Lawrence Edward Williams

Lawrence Edward Williams was born in Nassau County Long Island, New York on July 29, 1949. He had 1 sister, Lynn, mother, Cecily, and dad Alfred (Al). He went to a private religious school and after graduation went to Michigan Tech University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969/1970. 
 
He met his wife Beverly and they were married in June 1970. After graduation they went to Connecticut where Beverly finished her art degree. 
 
Upon returning to the U.P. Lawrence worked for NTS in Laurium and they resided in Laurium. 
Later Larry took a position at Calumet Machine as their engineer. He wore many hats there, and did everything from design, foreman, purchase person and sometimes had to invent designs to make a job go smoother. He was recognized for his work here for Horner Flooring. He also revamped sound boards and did all but the secretary’s job! 
 
He left the company in 1995 to go to Mexico as a missionary, living along the border of McAllen, Texas and Mexico. He helped build houses for the poor in Mexico, distributed goods to them and led many of them to Christ. 
 
He graduated from language school in 1995/1996 at the top of his class. 
 
Returning to the states, he spent time at Redding, California in the school of the super-natural; and spent 3 years at IHOP-K-C where he headed up a free ministry to the students and faculty. 
 
He returned to the U.P. in 2013. He helped over the years at Gitche Gumee Bible Camp while Mel Jones was the director, building with Mel and cooking with Carol, who headed up the kitchen.
 
He attended First Baptist Church for 10 years where he drove the Awana bus and taught Sunday School. He then attended Northwoods Christian Assembly for a year with Pastor Toth before going to language school and Mexico.
 
A funeral service will be held for Lawrence Williams on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 at the Harvest Church in Calumet, Michigan at 11:00 am. A visitation will take place on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 am at the Harvest Church in Calumet, Michigan. A luncheon will take place following the service. Burial will take place at the Waasa Cemetery.
