Obituary: LaVerne A. Aho

LaVerne Ann Aho, of Chassell, died at her home on July 27, 2022, surrounded by family, following a brief illness. She was interred at Chassell cemetery on July 30.

She was born on September 21, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Shirley Gaba, and her brother Don Gaba. She is survived by her husband, Alfred of Chassell, brother Richard (Barbara) Gaba, of Garden Grove, California, and their three children: Diana (Tom) Wright of Sartell, Minnesota, Allan (Andrea) Aho of Chassell, and Robert Aho (Monica) Aho of Chassell. Laverne grew up in Culver, Indiana, and married the love of her life Alfred Aho on June 29, 1957 in Dollar Bay. LaVerne enjoyed spending time with her 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

During most of her married life LaVerne lived in Crown Point, Indiana. She was active in her church, leading women’s groups, teaching Sunday School, and tending to the needs of others.

She enjoyed traveling, had a green thumb, was an active reader, and possessed a gift for connecting with others on a personal level. She enjoyed her retirement on Portage Lake in Chassell, entertaining, taking pontoon rides, and watching the sun rise.

As a lifelong Christian, LaVerne, trusted the Good News that she had been saved by the grace of God in Jesus Christ through the gift of faith.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 3 at 12:00 p.m. at Painesdale Methodist Church, 15385 Iroquois St., Painesdale, MI 49955 with Pastor Thomas Wright officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be given to the Painesdale Methodist Church.
