Obituary: Kurt Alan Hakala

Kurt Alan Hakala, 57, of Laurium, passed away on September 20, 2023, after injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

                He was born on July 6, 1966, a son of Ralph and Joyce (Moilanen) Hakala.  He attended Dollar Bay Schools and graduated from Hancock Central High School.  He served in the U.S. Navy.  After his time in the military, he trained to become a jet airplane mechanic. He currently was employed at K.I. Sawyer International Airport.

                He liked to ride his motorcycle.   He enjoyed working on the farm with animals, and he was a very good cook.

                He was preceded in death by: his father-Ralph in 2015.

                He is survived by: 3 daughters-Courtney (Joseph) Sapinsky of Battle Creek, MI, Alyssa Hakala of Dollar Bay, and Kayla Hakala of South Range; 2 grandchildren-Gemma and Eli; mother-Joyce Hakala of Lake Linden; siblings-Sheryl Ala of Lake Linden, Melanie Rossi of Dollar Bay, Lisa Churchfield of Columbia Heights, MN, and Keith (Amy) Hakala of Lake Linden; special friend-Carol Hall of Laurium; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

                The Memorial Service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday September 22, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Pastor Bucky Beach to officiate.  Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until the start of the service at the funeral home.
