Obituary: Kevin C. Kangas

Kevin Christopher Kangas, 51, of Hancock, passed away with family by his side on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at UP Health System-Marquette following complications from major surgery.

Kevin was born September 17, 1969, in Tucson, Arizona, a son of Chris and Dolores (Hongisto) Kangas.

He graduated from Hancock High School Class of 1987, and then entered into the United States Air Force serving for 10 years with tours of duty in Iraq.

After leaving the service, Kevin became an executive chef working in Kentucky before returning home to Hancock to work at Kangas Café and Catering with his parents until his death. He was so talented in cooking and will be so missed.

Kevin was an avid golfer and a fan of Mickey Mouse.

On July 14, 2012, Kevin married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, LeeAnn Hughes. They made their home in Hancock. She put the smile back on his face.

Kevin is survived by his wife, LeeAnn; his parents, Chris and Dolores Kangas; his two daughters, Sloan Marie Kangas and her fiancé, Skylar Closson, and Taylor Ann Kangas; and their mother, Pegeen Kangas, all of Niles, Mich.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Lana Hughes; a sister, Dr. Pamela Jean (Joseph) Pardini of Green Bay, Wisc.; a brother, Pastor Jon Richard (Mary) Kangas of Hope Fellowship Church of Houghton; a sister-in-law, Shelly Hughes; nieces and nephews, Samantha Paige Pardini, Dylan Mario Pardini, Jackson Joseph Pardini, all of Green Bay; Alison Renee Kangas, Macy June (Josh) St. Martin of Washington, Lillly Ann Kangas and Isaac James Kangas of Houghton; his special little buddies, Aurora, Charlotte and Eleanor; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Kevin was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Wayne Kangas; his maternal grandparents, Richard and Martha Hongisto; and paternal grandparents, Felix and Florence Kangas.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, with Pastor Jon Kangas to officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday in the funeral home.
