Obituary: Kenneth Hendrickson

Lake Linden: Kenneth Hendrickson, 83, of Lake Linden, passed away after a long illness, on April 29, 2020, with family by his side.

He was born in Hubbell on February 28, 1937, and raised in Tamarack City. He was a son of Carl and Irene (Gerbe) Hendrickson. He was a 1955 graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. In LL-H basketball, he was the 6th in all-time career scoring with 996 points and 3rd all-time career scoring average per game at 16.6 points.

Ken served the area as a distinguished flooring contractor for 34 years working for numerous area businesses and private homeowners, retiring in 2000 due to health issues. He had also worked as an Iron Worker for 9 years, where he worked on the lift bridge construction, sailed on the Great Lakes, and was a miner in the C&H mines for 1 season, and a national guardsman from 1954-1957. Ken had been fitted with one of the first electronic legs in Michigan.

He coached Little League, Babe Ruth and Legion baseball for a total of 8 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, along with his annual fishing trip to Isle Royale and 14 trips to Hawaii. He was an avid gardener. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden where he served as an usher.

He was married to Theresa Barrette on April 9, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this spring.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by: his wife-Theresa; 6 children-Darrell (Cindy) Hendrickson of Hubbell, Michael (Lori) Hendrickson of Laurium, Daniel (Stephen Jukuri) Hendrickson of Laurium, Scott (LeAnne) Hendrickson of Antigo, WI, Karen (Tony) Pleshe of DePere, WI, and Greta (Shannon Hanson) Hendrickson of Kauai, HI; 9 grandchildren-Joshua, Jared, Jessica, Jeana, Mitchel, Erik, Kendra, Julie, and Jacob; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother-Ronald (Sheryl) Hendrickson of Ashville, NC; 2 sisters-Greta Larson of Menominee and Karen (Alan) Brackett of Curtis; a brother-in-law-Robert (Debbie) Barrette of Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, the funeral service will be held at a later date. The Peace Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
