Obituary: Kenlyn E. Crane

As received from Memorial Chapel Funeral and Cremation Service:

Kenlyn Crane, 84, passed away at the Omega House, on Friday, November 22 nd 2024.

Kenlyn was born on February 8, 1940 in Daggett, Michigan to Kenneth and Sarah (Thoune) Rivard.

She grew up on dairy farm in Daggett, where daily, long hours harvesting milk, caring for multiple types of animals, and growing their family’s food was the norm. This contributed to her skills in growing, gathering and preserving all types of food, including apples, cherries, asparagus, green beans, tomatoes, rhubarb and much more.

Kenlyn was a funny, spirited, and kind person. After high school graduation, she worked at the AC Nielsen Company in Chicago before marrying Richard Crane and moving back to Michigan. The couple eventually moved to Hurontown, where they lived for the next 60 years. She became a stay at home mom to her three children, as well as providing child care to others for many years. She loved planting flowers, gardening, sewing, cooking, canning, and feeding hummingbirds. She collected teapots and other treasures, and read poetry nearly every day. She was also well known for making amazing home-cooked meals, desserts, and bread. She often opened her home to family and friends for meals and extended visits. She was dedicated to her boys’ sports, going to all of their basketball, track, and cross country meets, as well as road races that they and her husband participated in for many years. For a number of years, their family supported long-distance marathon runners in the annual Copper Harbor 50-mile road races. She also regularly provided food for funerals at, and donated to, St. Ignatius Church for many years.

Kenlyn is survived by her children Mike (Sarah) Crane, Dan (Mary) Crane, and Rebecca Crane.; her grandchildren, Kathryn (Ryan) Juarez, Amanda (Eric) Deyaert, Rachel (Ian) Anderson, and Max Crane, as well as her great grandchildren Kinsley , Delaney , Jovi, Isaiah, Trinity, Brayden and Kenlyn and great-great granddaughter, Raelynne. She is also survived by her siblings Duane Rivard, Gary (Marie) Rivard, Lloyd (Peggy) Rivard, Tom (Betty) Rivard, Ann Dressel, Marie (John) Kakuk, Antoinette (Steve) Erdman and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Sarah (Thoune)
Rivard, her Brother, Frank (Janice) Rivard, her infant son Andrew, and her husband of 59 years, Richard.

Kenlyn’s quick-witted humor, love and support will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
