Obituary: Kelly Suzanne Newman

Calumet – Heaven was blessed with another angel today. On April 3rd, Kelly Suzanne Newman passed away.

Kelly was born on October 21, 1984 to Bill and Carrie Newman. She attended the Calumet Public Schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 2003. She furthered her education at Gogebic Community College, Finlandia University and on-line.

Kelly enjoyed working with the public and started her career as a waitress at Toni’s Country Kitchen in Laurium at the age of 14. Over the years, she worked as a server in many area establishments. Currently she was employed with Newman Appliance and At Home Companions.

Kelly was a wonderful daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend. She was (no doubt about it) the favorite auntie of her many nieces and nephews. She adored them and they in return adored her. Kelly was the sparkle and sass of the family. As her Dad would say, “she was the straw that stirred the drink in our lives”. Kelly gave us so much without asking anything in return. We will miss her so deeply.

Preceding Kelly in death were her maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather, aunts Anne Shafer and Paula McKaig and uncle Michael Ervast.

She is survived by her parents Bill and Carrie, her brother Kyle (Lindsey), sisters Libbie (Eric) Petaja, K.C. (Bob) Van Nuck, Chelsea (Mike) Anderson, her grandmother Anne Newman, nieces and nephews Carter, Max, Eve and Grace Petaja, William and Kate Anderson, Abi and Pete Van Nuck and Isabella, Cam, and soon to be born Jase Newman. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins and her god-parents Cheryl and Bruce Carlson.

Visitation will be Monday April 8th at the Ryan Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p. m. with Rev. Fr. Gracious Pulimaoottil officiant assisted by Deacon Art Stancher.
