Obituary: Keith Robert Paulson

As received from the Jacobson Funeral Home

Keith Robert Paulson, age 69, of Nisula, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

Keith was born on February 6, 1955, in L’Anse, MI, to Urban and Helmie (Moilanen) Paulson. He graduated from L’Anse High School in 1973 and married Jane Jahfetson on April 28, 1979, in Pelkie, Michigan, beginning a loving partnership that spanned decades.

For 40 years, Keith worked as a welder set-up man at VanStraten Brothers, retiring in 2018. Renowned for his skill and precision, Keith was a master of his craft. From welding two rims together to create a “dually” pickup for an old Ford truck to building log truck pup trailers and racks at Yaw-Kees in Alston, his work reflected an unmatched dedication to quality. It was often said that if there were such a thing as a wood welding rod, Keith could have welded wood together. His meticulous nature ensured that everything he touched was done right the first time.

Keith found joy in simple pleasures, including daily trips to Baraga, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his cherished grandchildren. His presence brought warmth and love to those around him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Paulson of Nisula; his children, Erin (Jim) Peterson of Alston, Krystal (Darin) Tollefson of Skanee, Amanda (Craig) Putala of Dickinson, ND, and Todd Paulson of L’Anse; his brother, Gerald (Nancy) Paulson of Nisula; grandchildren, Jason, Erika, Hannah, Carter, Easton, Ellie, Everett, and one on the way; and two great-grandchildren, Kane and Kason.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Urban and Helmie, and his brothers, Gene, Curtis, and Brian Paulson.

A memorial service to honor Keith’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home, with Pastor Ed Hulkonen officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the spring at Nisula Cemetery.
