Obituary: Kathy Helms

Kathy (Mike) Helms, 50, a resident of Hancock passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021, at UP Health- Marquette Hospital following a short illness.
She was born on December 23, 1970, in Hancock a daughter of Roy and Carolyn (Carlson) Mattson. Kathy was raised in Superior Location and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1989. She then received her Associate’s Degree in Business from Gogebic Community College.
Kathy then worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell and for the past 18 years has worked for Lahti Jeweler’s in Houghton.
On April 20, 2009, she was united in marriage to Michael L. Helms and the couple has made their home in Hancock since that time.
Mrs. Helms was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.
Preceding her in death were her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Surviving are: Her husband: Michael Helms of Hancock; Her stepdaughter: Michelle (Scott) Wells of Ithica, MI and their 6 children and 3 grandchildren; Her parents: Roy and Carolyn Mattson of Houghton; Her sister: Tracy (Brian) LeClaire of Chassell; Her brother: Michael Mattson of Houghton; Her loving niece: Leah LeClaire of Chassell; Special cousin Tamara (Joe) Eklund of Munising; Her best friend: Kelly (Randy) Basto of Lake Linden; Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins
A memorial service for Kathy will be held 6:00 pm Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Brahm Semmler-Smith to officiate.
