Born January 9, 1918, in Sagola, MI, she was the daughter of Edward and Agnes Collette. As a youth, she graduated from Chassell High School and worked in Houghton, Oak Park, Ill, and for Henry Funk at the Chassell Mercantile Co.
In 1943 she married Jack Komula and they lived in Ontonagon and Durango, CO, before building their home in Chassell in 1952.
Katy was a devout member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and was active in church and community work. She loved her home and took great pride in her gardens and she always welcomed people who stopped to admire her flowers. An avid sewer and knitter, she sold crafts for 33 years at the annual Strawberry Festival. Known as the “Frog Lady”, she collected hundreds of frogs that decorated her home and yard.
Surviving are her daughter Mrs. Cheryl (John) Mattson of Dollar Bay; three grandchildren: Denise Mattson of Marquette, Darryl (Amy) Mattson of Ishpeming and Debbie (Jesse) Douglas of Appleton; four great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Jacob Mattson and Maxwell and Lily Douglas and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Jack, two sisters; Cleo Rowalt and Glennis Lorenz and a brother Sverre Collette.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials be given to St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Chassell in memory of Katy.
Katy’s family would like to thank the staff at the Lighthouse in Hancock and the members of Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
