Karen J. Hannon, 56, of Houghton, passed away peacefully Monday, February 4, 2019.
She was born August 10, 1962, in Sault St. Marie, a daughter to the late Kenneth and Betty (Terrian) Koski, and was a 1980 graduate of the Hancock High School.
Karen married David Hannon in 1990 and they raised a daughter, Jennifer. Although eventually parting ways, they remained friends.
Karen worked at Gino’s Restaurant in Hancock, the former D&N Bank in Hancock, and also did administrative work at Michigan Tech and Gogebic Community College.
Karen was a member of the Catholic Faith. She was a faithful all around sports mom. She enjoyed traveling around the Midwest to horse shows with Jennifer and was always there to support her at hockey games and volleyball. Karen was an avid painter and loved sharing her oil paintings with family. She had a talent for decorating and crafting. She was a member of the Wyandotte Thursday night Women’s Golf League for several years.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Jennifer and her fiancé, Stephen Butina of Kronenwetter, Wisconsin; two brothers, Keith (Julie) Koski of Hancock, and Kevin (Anna) Koski of Houghton; her lifelong friend, Laura North of Houghton; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and her pet dog, Piper. Besides her parents, Karen was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kurt and Kraig.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton, with Fr. John Martignon as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
