Julia L. (Steve) Helms, 65, a resident of Twin Lakes passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, shortly after being admitted to UP Health Systems Portage Hospital in Hancock.
She was born on November 19, 1956, in Bloomington, IL, a daughter of the late Eddie and Harriette (Stevens) Payne. Julia was a graduate of the Bloomington High School and Illinois State University with a degree in teaching.
In 1980, she was united in marriage to Steve Helms, the couple had resided in various parts of the United States until 1989 when they moved to make their home in Twin Lakes and own and operate the Mosquito Inn in Toivola. In 2009, they were able to sell the Mosquito Inn and Julia began working for various nuclear power plants as a Nuclear Health Physics Tech.
Julia enjoyed her summers at Twin Lakes and spending time with her best friend and husband along with her cats.
