Chassell–Joyce E. VanWestenburg, 86, of Chassell peacefully departed this world Friday, September 21, 2018 in her home following a stroke the previous week.
Joyce was born on December 29, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Peter & Gertrude Timmer.
She leaves behind her husband, John, four children, and a grandson. Daughters, Laura Palmer, Glenna Sprague and Claire Murchie, son Stevan VanWestenburg and grandson Dale Sprague
Joyce was married to her husband in January 1951, having met him in college. She was a dedicated homemaker and energetic volunteer. She was actively involved in every location she resided.
School Board member in Houghton, Brazosport Museum of Natural Science, Brazosport Art League, Clean City Commission, Keep America Beautiful, Nominated for Lyndon B. Johnson award for outstanding women volunteers when in Texas. Chassell Historical Organization, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, and Doelle Senior Citizens when in Chassell as well as many more to numerous to mention.
She will be missed by everyone that has ever known her. A private celebration of her life is planned for a later date.
