Obituary: Joseph Edward Peterson

As received from the Jacobson Funeral Home:

Joseph Edward Peterson

The man, the myth, the legend.

October 27, 1957 to June 4, 2021.

Baraga, MI.

Born in Alaska, raised in the slightly colder and more remote Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Joe Peterson, a genuine man’s man fearlessly and peacefully shed his mortal coil headed to what we’re all convinced is a better place.

There are numerous things for which he was renowned and celebrated. He was a gifted athlete, a high school defensive and offensive lineman of the year and maintains a Baraga high school record for shotput. He was a sportsman, loved the woods, the water, and the wild. He loved to hunt and fish particularly with his friends. He was a generous lover, a rebel rouser, a dedicated good time enthusiast, an amateur philosopher, a spiritual Sherpa, and he didn’t take shit from anybody.

There are the things you may not have known about him for which he had comparable prowess. He was a formidable Scattergories and cribbage player. He was always a reliable Pictionary partner. An avid Starcraft aficionado, a theatrical worthy peewee baseball coach, a theological scholar and shot above par at Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009. He loved gardening and got up before dawn during every storm that his wife needed him to bring her to work.

He did not want to have a funeral and as per his wishes he is to be cremated and his ashes will be spread along the roads he liked to cruise, his favorite hunting, and fishing sites ~ so if anyone missed and needed him they only needed to go for a ride.

He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, two sons Travis (Heather) and Trevor (Vanessa), grandkids Emi, Mila, and Nicholas, and best friends Tom, Jim, and George. His sharp wit is gone, his huge heart has moved on. Love him or hate him ~  living fast and living hard, Joe Peterson, you were the man.

Friends may sign his guest book or send condolences at www.jacobsonfuneralhome.
