Joseph C. Jakovic, 95 a former Houghton resident passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Canal View Houghton county, after being a resident there for 5 years.
He was born on March 31, 1925, in Dodgeville Mi., a son of the late Anton and Mary(Butkovich) Jakovic.
Joe was raised in Dodgeville, and attended the Isle Royale school.
He worked for Bancroft dairy in the 1940’s delivering milk, he then moved to the Detroit area with his brother Frank (Blondie), then returned to the Copper Country and worked at Copper Range Machine Shop in Painesdale.
In 1963, he was hired at Michigan Tech, and worked as a Building Attendant until the time of his retirement in August of 1986.
He worked a lot of side jobs doing repair work for Sears, putting up fences, and worked at a machine shop in Calumet.
After retirement he drove the trolley for the Houghton Motor transit, for 10 years.
Joe was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, he enjoyed tinkering in his basement, playing the accordion and reading, he was a good cook and baker too.
He was an avid sports fan following the Detroit Tigers, the red wings, and Green Bay Packers.
On June 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to the former Marbeth Laux. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2001.
Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, and siblings Tony, Virginia, Eva, Agnes, Frank and Bertha.

A mass of Christian Burial for Joseph will be held at 10am Wednesday June 24th at St. Ignatius Loyola Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
Friends may call on Tuesday June 23, 2020 from 5 to 8pm at the Plowe Funeral Home of Houghton, where a parish prayer service will be held at 6pm.
