Joseph (Joe) Butala, 83, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, January 26, 2023. He was born on January 26, 1940, to the late Fermin and Eva (Beauchamp) Butala.
Joe received his GED from Calumet High School, graduated from Bell & Howell School of Electronics, and three electrical courses at Michigan Technological University. He worked at MTU at the central heating plant as shift operator and shift supervisor for 25 years.
He married Jo Ann Deltut on February 13, 1960, together they had 3 children, Lynn Marie, Joseph J. and Bill.
Joe loved working on cars, collecting guns and trains, and riding his motorcycle and four wheeling. But the game of golf was his dream.
Joe was a veteran – serving for 2 years in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of 62 years; two sons, Joseph J. and Bill of Laurium; six grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Basto, Daniel (Andrea) Basto, Eric Basto, John Butala, Jacob Butala, and Jana Butala (his little girl); 10 great-grandchildren, Jaid, Oliver, Orrin, Chloe, Ayla Mae, Jaycee, Tyler, Leiland, Tristyn, and Brayden; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Parker, Keegan, Maiya, and Granna; as well as his brother George (Marlene) Butala, sister-in-law Delores Dix, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Lynn; 3 sisters Lucilla Wilmers, Margee Wilmers, and Nancy Butala; brother Raymond Butala, sister-in-law Charlene Butala & Ann Butala.
Burial will be at the Lake View Cemetery and celebration of life in the spring.
