John W. “Festus” Duquette, age 82 of Baraga, MI passed away at his home in Baraga on October 16, 2023. He was born in Marquette, MI on December 9, 1940 the son of the late Alex and Ellen (Swanson) Duquette. John graduated from Marquette High School in 1960. He had been employed with UPPCO in 1974 and retired in 2000 with the title of “Chief Rocket Scientist”. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on “junk” cars, feeding and watching the hummingbirds in his yard, and attending mud races. John was a member of the UP Mud Drag Association.
John is survived by his loving son Roy (Trudy) Duquette of Baraga, grandsons Adam Duquette of Virginia, Michael (Haley Vanwyk) Turunen of Boston, and Rian (Maegan Kraft) Turunen of Baraga brother Jay (Karen) Duquette of Lansing, sister Janice (Deloyd) Cousineau of Marquette, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his loyal dog “Sophie”. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David.
A visitation for John will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Immediately following the visitation, the family invites friends to join them for a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home.
