John R. “UC” Johnson, age 75 of L’Anse, MI passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 at Omega House, Houghton, MI. He was born in Hancock, MI on November 3, 1947 the son of the late John J. and Laina (Pekkala) Johnson. UC graduated from L’Anse High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1969. UC had worked for Pettibone Corp., Baraga, MI and retired after 50 years. He was a member of the Baraga American Legion Post #444 and a member of the former Finnish Lutheran Church, L’Anse. UC was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, “GO Pack GO”, had played softball for Northwoods Bar, and had coached Legion baseball, and bowled. UC loved spending time with his grandchildren.
UC is survived by his loving son Scott (Alyssa) Johnson of Tapiola, grandchildren Kyson and Teagan Johnson, brother Duane (Pam) Johnson of L’Anse, and 4 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Immediately following the visitation, the family invites friends to join them for a luncheon at the Baraga American Legion Post #444.
Military honors and interment will take place in the Spring in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
