Obituary: John Perrero

John “Doc” Perrero of Calumet, passed away on December 15, 2019 at Gardenview Assisted Living and Memory Care in Calumet. 

He was born on the family farm in Iron Belt, Wisconsin on November 16, 1929 to Anton and Angeline (Suino) Perrero. He graduated from Iron Belt High School and went on to Lake Superior State University for his teaching degree, and received a Master’s Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University. He taught in Cudahy, Wisconsin and Iron Belt before teaching chemistry and physical science at Calumet High School for 32 years, retiring in 1990. He was affectionately known by his students as “Doc”. 

On October 11, 1958 he was united in marriage to Elaine Rosaleen “Bunny” Karinen. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Calumet.John enjoyed gardening, bowling, puzzles, cribbage, poker and reading in his spare time. He loved coaching basketball, Little League Baseball, and cheering for the Packers and the Braves. John ran the clock at the Calumet basketball games and the chains at Calumet football games for many years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and liked a good prank. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends more than anything.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elaine “Bunny” of Calumet; daughters Lisa (Dean) Hattula of Phoenix, Arizona and Lauren (Randy) Rastello of Ahmeek; granddaughters Holly Hattula of Phoenix, Arizona and Sara Rastello of Marquette; great-granddaughters Alyssa Hattula, Charlotte Ballard and Ryan Niño of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Gasper Perrero of Iron Belt, Wisconsin; sister in law, Marilyn Karinen of  Mukwonago, Wisconsin, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by brothers Barney Perrero and Joe Perrero; sisters Catherine Zanella and Clementine Perrero; sisters in law Janice Perrero and Babe Perrero and brothers in law Ronald Karinen and Ivo Zanella.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gardenview Assisted Living and Memory Care and Aspirus at Home for their compassionate and loving care.Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the CLK Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Doc.
