John Paul Junttila, 72, passed away peacefully, in the care of his family, on Thursday evening October 8th, 2020.
He was born December 7th, 1947 in Seattle, WA to Wilbert and Virginia Junttila. He grew up in Wakefield, MI and graduated with the Class of ‘67. He married Sharon Helminen on July 2, 1977 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet, where he was a member.
Johnny loved hockey and coached various local teams over the years.
The lights of his life were his 17 precious grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Wilbert (Weep) and Virginia (Ginny) Junttila.
He is survived by his wife Sharon and their five children:
Justin (Christina) Junttila, Eliana, Andrew, Abe, Lily, Charlotte, Clay, and Evie of Escanaba
Julie (Josh) Koskela, Dennis and Elias of Houghton
Sarah Stevens, of Traprock Valley
Ginny (Joe) Johnson, Charles, Rosalie, Elmer, and Otto, of Traprock Valley
Gust (Chelsea) Junttila, Vivian, Clara, Gus, and Sylvi, of Iron Mountain
He is also survived by his siblings, Jim Junttila of Calumet, Karen (Jim) Johnson of Big Traverse, Dan (Claudia) Junttila of Calumet, Kristine (Roger) Riutta of Oskar Bay, and Mary Junttila of Seattle.
He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday October 12, 2020 in Lake View Cemetery in Section 74 withDavid Taivalkoski to officiate.
