Graveside Services for John and Doreen (Narhi) Thibeau will be held at 2pm, Saturday, September 25, 2021, in the Toivola Cemetery with Pastor James Heikkinen to officiate. Military honors for both will be conducted by the Copper Country Veterans Association.
On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, John Thibeau passed away from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
John was born in Washington, D.C. on February 28, 1961, to the late John and Patricia (Mosley) Thibeau. He was raised in Upper Michigan and graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Ph. D in Health Psychology. John enlisted in the US Army and honorably served from 1982-1986. John married his high school sweetheart Doreen Narhi in May of 1982, and they made their home in Skandia, Michigan for many years.
John was a special person who had a smile for everyone, and his laughter was contagious. His friendship with you had no boundaries.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife Doreen, and a sister, Terrie Seyfert.
He is survived by sisters, Lorrie (Chuck) Klessig and Sherrie Thibeau. His mother and father-in-law, Sheldon & Eda Narhi. He was an uncle to David, Juston, Chad, Chris, Sean Mariah and several other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Doreen (Narhi) Thibeau passed away on December 26, 2019, at the Omega House in Houghton following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on May 11, 1963, in Hancock to Sheldon and Eda (Kommes) Narhi. Doreen was raised in Houghton and graduated with the Houghton High School with the class of 1981. Following high school, she attended Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, MI where she graduated with a degree in accounting. Doreen enlisted with the US Army gaining rank as Sergeant and honorably served in Operation Desert Storm/Shield. When she returned home from the service. She began working for Terex in Baraga until the company’s relocation. Doreen decided to stay in the area and enjoy her time caring for her animals on the farm with her husband John.
Doreen was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Joel Kangas, sister-in-law Denise Narhi, and her grandparents Sulo and Sophie Narhi and Aili and Edward Kommes.
She is survived by her parents Sheldon and Eda Narhi, sister Jean Kangas and brother Roy (Trisha) Narhi and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
