John “Jack” Mishica, 90, a former resident of Bootjack and recently of Hancock passed away on February 11, 2020.
He was born on September 9, 1929 in Laurium to Joseph and Irene (Hermann) Mishica. He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1948. Following high school, Jack attended Northern Michigan University where he played football for the Wildcats, and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education. After graduated from NMU, Jack was drafted with the United States Army, actively serving for 2 years, and then 18 years with the Michigan Army National Guard.
After an honorable discharge from the US Army, Jack began teaching for Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools. Jack coached football and taught at Lake Linden for 31 years. After retiring from teaching, Jack enjoyed spending his summers in Bootjack and fishing on Portage Lake, and spending his winters in St. Petersburg, Florida.
On February 19, 1954 he was united in marriage at St. Paul the Apostle Church to Jeanne Makela, together they celebrated 66 years.
He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irene Mishica, his brother- Robert Mishica, and his sister Joan Evan-Wong

A private graveside service was held at the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
