Obituary: John “Jack” Lundgren

As received from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel:

Baraga- John “Jack” Lundgren, age 77, longtime area resident, passed away on Friday November 25, 2022 at his home.

Jack was born on January 16, 1945 in Laurium, MI son of the late Frank and Sophie (Kanasavitch) Lundgren. He graduated from Calumet High School class of 1962. Following graduation Jack moved to Detroit to work for Ford. While in the Detroit area he went into apprenticeship training before becoming a General Contractor and moving back to Baraga. Before retirement, he owned Lundgren Builders and he and his crew constructed several homes and businesses, as well as many remodeling jobs. Jack was always a hard worker, peeling pulp with his Dad, a logger when he was 9 years old.

When Jack was in high school, he played football and hockey; he was also in the ROTC program. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, trapping, fishing, and feeding the deer. He called his does “pretty girls” and when they heard his 4-wheeler, they would come running. Two of Jack’s favorite sayings were, “Do something, even if it’s wrong” and “I’ve got a job for you.”

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years- Jill (Olson) Lundgren, 4 children- Colleen (John Pinkerton) Lundgren, Heidi (Jeff) Syrjala, Eric (Crystal) Lundgren, Adam (Courtney) Lundgren, sister- Jeanne (Dennis) Spivey of Florida, 7 grandchildren- Thaine (Luke) Fuller, Abby (Joel) Mayo, Corbin (Kaisa) Fuller, Bill Mayo, Anna Fuller, Kai Lundgren, Ericson “Sonny” Lundgren, 1 great grandchild- Maija Fuller, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister- Betty Vitton of California.
