As received from Antila Funeral Service:
John J. Katalin passed away November 3, 2020, following a three year illness with Alzeheimer’s Disease.
He was born on August 28, 1938, to John and Ann (Plesha) Katalin. He started his life in Seeberville, then at the age of 11, moved to Painesdale. His heart was always in Seeberville along with many of his cherished memories. In 1956, he graduated from Jeffers High School.
Soon after graduation he joined the U.S. Army serving in Germany and France.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he moved to Milwaukee and worked at Harley Davidson. John eventually found himself moving home working at the White Pine Copper Mine. He later worked for Peterlin Distributing, as well as local construction companies as a truck driver, eventually retiring from Moyle Construction.
John was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and music. As a young child, he began to play music which turned into a lifetime passion. John was well known for his Croatian style of accordion music. His passion for music showed in his smile each time he picked up an instrument.
John married Ruth Langdon on October 27, 1962. They raised three children, Thomas Katalin (Tina Tesluk), Susan (Peter) Negro and Joseph (Trish) Katalin. They have six grandchildren, Sandra Katalin, Rachelle Gariepy (Katalin) Joseph Katalin, James Katalin, Thomas Landers and Suzanne Gaspardo (Landers), as well as nine great grandchildren. John also leaves behind his special lifelong friend, Allan Keto, whom he met the first day of Kindergarten, and they remained forever friends. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Sheila Rolando and Lynn Baldwin; several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Beverly and Viola (Niemi) Langdon; and a brother-in-law, Terry.
John’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Woodland Haven for their compassion and wonderful care he received over the past few months.
