Obituary: John Desiatto

John Joseph Desiatto Jr., 66, a resident of Calumet passed away peacefully at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021.
He was born on October 24th, 1955 in Laurium to John and Anna (Colombo) Desiatto. He graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1974. Following high school John enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1979. He continued serving his country by joining the local National Guard (1431st Engineer Battalion). John obtained his degree in Human Services at Suomi College (Finlandia University). He then went on to work for Copper Country Mental Health helping those who are disabled. His dream job was when he worked for Loram Maintenance of Way as a foreman on the track maintenance train.
John was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed metal detecting for Copper, trains, and spending time with his grandson. He was a member of the American Legion Post #90, Vietnam Vets of American, and held the position of Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 1245.
On August 22nd, 1981 he was married to Carol Desiatto (Harry) at St. Mary’s Church in Atlantic Mine.
The “Apple of His Eye” was born on October 28th, fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a Father.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna, infant brother Gerard Anthony Desiatto; brother-in-law: Michael Carne; father-in-law: Jacob Harry.
He is survived by his wife: Carol Desiatto (Harry) of Calumet; his daughter: Christina (Daniel) Holcomb of Painesdale; his grandchild: Liam Holcomb; brother: Michael Desiatto; special friends: Pete and Debbi Halley; mother-in-law: Eva Chimino; sisters-in-law: Judith Carne and Lori Adams; brother-in-law: Thomas Harry; and special nieces.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, December 7th, 2021 at 11am with Father Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate.
Friends may call at the Ryan Funeral Home on Monday, December 6th, 2021 from 2pm to 5pm and 6pm to 8pm; with a prayer vigil held at 7:30pm.
Burial will take place in the spring in Lake View Cemetery.
