Obituary: John C. Carr, Sr

John C. Carr, Sr, age 72, of L’Anse, Michigan passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse. He was born in L’Anse on July 26, 1947, the son of the late Charles and Betty (Brown) Carr. John graduated from L’Anse High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy with 3 tours of duty during the Vietnam War. John married the love of his life, Vicki Jolgren on March 18, 1968. He was employed as a Union Mill Wright until his retirement. John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse VFW #3897, L’Anse American Legion #144, DVA, lifetime member of Ottawa Sportsman’s Club and past president of the former Eagles Club #2287. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, collecting guns and camping. He and Vicki had become snowbirds during the past 8 years, spending winters in Florida. John was a kindhearted family man who loved spending time with his wife, sons and grandchildren.

John is survived by his loving wife Vicki, sons Christopher Carr (Jane) of Green Bay, WI, Dustin (Allison) Carr of L’Anse and John Carr, Jr. of Green Bay, WI, grandchildren Cayla, Joshua, Madison, Olivia, Kaidynce, Ethan and Sophia, brothers James Carr of Grand Rapids, MI and Charles (Bonnie) Carr of Diorite, MI, sister Lorraine Stockwell of Whitehall, Montana and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Diane and brother-in-law Bill.

Visitation will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse. Baraga County Area Veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post #444 will conduct military honors at 12 p.m. John’s funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm with Father Corey Litzner officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse.

Spring interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
