Obituary: Joe Cook

UPDATE: A graveside service and burial will take place on Friday May 3, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Lake View Cemetery located in Calumet, Michigan. Pastor Bryan Lundqiust and the CCVA will be performing the service.

Joe Cook, 88, a resident of Rice Lake passed away at his home in the presence of his family on Monday morning March 25, 2024.

He was born on December 30, 1935 in Blackville, South Carolina a son of the late John Henry and Rosa (Brown) Cook.

Joe was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years active duty during the Korean Conflict and also in the reserves for 4 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 61 of Calumet.

On October 23, 1956 he was united in marriage to the former Margaret “Peggy” Brewer in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Laurium.

Joe was employed in his younger years at Seneca Mine in Ahmeek, Brewer Electric and for most of his later working years he was an over the road trucker driving for Mayflower Trucking, Bruce King and Smeester Brothers.

Joe loved to hunt, fish, garden, bird watch, trucking, traveling, country music.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed shoveling snow.  

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Laurium where he served as a deacon and usher.

Preceding him in death was: his sister Mayden (Jessie) David and 2 brothers: John Henry Jr. (Nadine) Cook and Felder (Claire) Cook.

Surviving are: His wife Margaret “Peggy” Cook

 Daughter: Sheryl (Dave) Makolin of Laurium

 Sons: Terry (Linda) Cook of Norway, MI, Tim (Susanne) Cook of Huntsville, TX, Dale (Lisa) Cook of Ripon, WI and Chris (Aletha) Cook of Rice Lake

 16 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren

Brother: Clarence “Bobby” (Lisa) Cook of Hanahan, SC, brother Felder’s wife Claire Cook of Goose Creek SC 

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 29, 2024 at 5:00 PM at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Laurium with Rev. Bryan Lundquist to officiate.

 Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 4-5 PM.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
