Atlantic Mine – Jody Lynn Lantto, 57, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022, after a lengthy illness. She was
born on September 28 th , 1964, in Detroit, MI. Primarily a life long resident of Upper Michigan. She grew up living in Atlantic Mine on Obenhoff Lake.
Jody attended the Stanton, Portage and Adams Township Schools. She was a 1982, graduate of Jeffers High School and they were the best years of her life. Besides being a mom and a grandma, of course.
In 1984, Jody graduated from Soumi College with an associate’s degree in Human Services. She went on to Northern Michigan University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in social work in 1987. She worked as a residential support Worker and Client Services Manager at Copper Country Mental Health for Eleven years. From 1999-2017 Jody owned
and operated Schmidt’s Corner Bar & Grill on the Houghton Canal.
Growing up, Jody enjoyed hanging out with friends and cousins camping, concerts, Agate Beach, Misery Bay, Lake Perrault, and the Houghton Breakers (just to name a few) She loved Music!!!
Jody was always grateful for all the great friends she had in her life. Too many best friends to name or count. So many good times. So many laughs.
Jody will miss her family most of all. Morning talks on the phone with her sister, visits home from her son, Noah, and visits to Jordyn’s to play with Ryder & Navi.
Jody was preceded in death by her father Arthur Lantto, and her mother Martha (Kemppainen) Lantto.
She is survived by:

Her grandson & granddaughter: Ryder Maki and Navi Maki of Houghton
Her brothers & Sister: Carl (Joanie) Lantto of Port Saint Lucie, FL
Louise (Chris) Agar of South Lyon, MI
John (Bonnie) Lantto of Farmington Hills, MI
Bruce (Kelly) Lantto of Greer, South Carolina
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Jody would like to thank the doctors and nurses at UP Health Systems – Portage for the care she received.
A time to remember Jody will be held Friday, July 22, 2022, from 4 to 7:00 pm at the upper floor of the Downtowner.
