Obituary: Joan Dupuis

As received from the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home:

Joan Dupuis, 88, of Hancock, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the Omega House in Houghton after an illness of several months.

She was born in Hancock on June 29, 1935 to the late Arthur J. and Stella (Morin) Opie. Growing up in Houghton, she attended Houghton schools and graduated from Houghton High School in 1953. Joan worked at the Houghton County Courthouse in the clerk’s office for over 40 years, retiring as Deputy Clerk. She enjoyed her job and co-workers very much.

On November 8, 1958 Joan married the love of her life, John “Jack” Dupuis of Lake Linden at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2016.

Joan was a devoted member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, actively serving with the funeral lunch committee, prayer shawl group, and was part of the weekly offering counters. She gave her time and talents to her parish family.

Joan was a strong, loving, thoughtful and kind person. The simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy. She found happiness in her daily activities. She liked going for rides, going on shopping trips with Jack and her family, and completing crossword puzzles. She was thrilled to go for a ride through Hancock on the new fire truck, blowing the horn and siren. She enjoyed family times, especially being with her many nieces and nephews. She would often say to them “You’re a good Kid”, as she loved them all very much. She had a group of friends that she loved to visit and talk with on the phone, cherishing those friendships.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Opie and a brother, Paul Opie. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Tony (Joanie) Dupuis and a sister-in-law, Jane Berryman, and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Church of the Resurrection with Reverend Father Corey Litzner to officiate. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. before the mass.

Joan’s family would like to thank the group of nurses that came together quickly to care for her allowing her to stay home a bit longer, which was her wish. They would also like to thank her doctors, Dr. Fletcher and Dr. Goodwin, Aspirus Home Health and Hospice, and the Omega House for their kind and compassionate care. They are eternally grateful for the unmatched care and support Joan received.
