Obituary: Jerome Greenleaf

Jerome Joseph “Jerry” Greenleaf, 81, a resident of Hancock passed away Monday, November 1, 2021, at his home following a short illness.

Jerry was born in Dollar Bay on May 12, 1940, to the late Michael and Evelyn (Smith) Greenleaf. He was raised in Dollar Bay and graduated from Dollar Bay High School.

Jerry moved to Milwaukee in the late 1950s where he met the love of his life, Barbara Avery. They were united in marriage on September 3, 1960. The couple moved back to the UP where Jerry finished his Cooking Degree at Northern Michigan University and later began his career as Head Chef at Michigan Tech’s Wadsworth Hall and later Douglas Houghton Hall where he retired after 28 years.

Jerry had a love for antique cars. He and Barb loved to drive in their 1956 Pontiac. Jerry loved to barbeque with family and friends. He especially enjoyed helping people when they were in need.

Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Barb, a brother Terry (Pat), and a sister, Pam.

He is survived by his children:

Jerome (Sherri) Greenleaf Jr., Wendy (Normand) Pellerin, Jennifer (Alan) Gatlin, and Ryan Greenleaf.

His grandchildren: Danielle, Ronald, J.R., Christine, Paige, Brittany, David (Kaitlyn) Ashley, Alex (Breanna), and Josh.

His great-grandchildren: Lilly, Logan, and Kimberley.

His siblings: Colleen Greenleaf, Michael Greenleaf, and Merrilee Greenleaf

Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private graveside service for Jerry will be held in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

A time to remember Jerry will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 3 to 6:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints in Houghton (47691 Meadow St., Houghton, MI 49931)
