Jeremy Lee Voakes, age 46, of L’Anse, MI passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021. He was born in L’Anse, MI on April 27, 1974 the son of Robert “Beaver” Voakes and Lillian (DeCota) Voakes. Jeremy attended school in L’Anse. He was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the KBIC Wildland Fire Fighters. Jeremy had been a welder in the shipyards in Wisconsin, was a roofer and worked as a laborer for Peninsula Powder Coating in Baraga. He enjoyed spearing, ice fishing, hunting, ATV and 4-wheeleing and crafting.
Jeremy is survived by his loving daughters Sydni Voakes of Baraga and Lillian Voakes of L’Anse, father Robert Voakes and step-mother Valerie Voakes, of L’Anse, brothers Christopher (Kristen) Voakes of L’Anse, Darian (Robin) DeCota of Baraga and Derek DeCota of L’Anse, sisters Nancy Voakes of L’Anse and Miranda (Jeremy) Forcia of L’Anse, aunt Gloria Shelifoe, and uncle George DeCota. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother Lillian DeCota, brother SPC Robert L. Voakes, Jr, grandmother Annabelle DeCota and aunt Mary DeCota.
Paul Halverson will conduct traditional native services at 12 p.m, Friday, March 26, 2021 at the Zeba Hall, Zeba, MI. The family will greet friends at the hall on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, a feast will be held.
