Obituary: Jeanne Terry

Jeanne L. (Pelto) Isaacson Terry died April 6, 2019, in Modesto, CA following a lengthy illness.

She was born February 16, 1930 in Pelkie, the only child of the late Alfred and Laina (Johnson) Pelto. Jeanne attended the Pelkie Elementary School and graduated from Baraga High School in 1947. She then studied business at Northern Michigan College (NMU) before being employed at the Leo H. Roy Agency in Hancock in 1950.

On May 26, 1951, she married Erwin “Erv” Isaacson in the Kyro Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Along with Erv’s brother, Jim, the couple owned and operated the Coast to Coast hardware store in Hancock. Jeanne and Erv were members of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church (now Gloria Dei) where Jeanne was a frequent soprano soloist. In the mid-1960’s they sold the store and moved to Columbia, California where they owned and operated a motel. Erv preceded her in death in 1970. In 1972, Jeanne married Weldon Terry. Weldon preceded Jeanne in death in 2004, as well as stepdaughter, Anne Shatswell.

Jeanne, a servant of the Lord, shared her faith through music and various church service activities. She was also a member of the Sonora Soroptimist Club.

After retiring, Jeanne and Weldon spent several summers in Pelkie where they enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Surviving are her stepdaughter, Karen (Bill) Perez, stepson-in-law Ken Shatswell, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren as well as brother-in-law Jim Isaacson, aunts Irene Pelto and Toini Alcenius, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside comital service will be held on August 10 at 10:00 A.M. at the Pelkie Cemetery officiated by Rev. Jeff Paulson. Friends of the family are welcome.
