Obituary: Jeanette Lepola

Jeanette Arlene Lepola, age 84 of Covington, MI passed away on Saturday, January 15th, 2022 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, MI.

She was born May 17, 1937 in Watton, MI daughter of Waino and Mildred (Penttinen) Norback. In 1955 she graduated from L’Anse High School. After graduation Jeanette moved to Detroit to work for S. S. Kresge Co. She married Melvin Lepola on May 26, 1956 and they established their home in the Wayne/Westland area raising five children. Upon her husband’s retirement in November 1992 they moved to Covington where she worked at the Watton Country Store for many years.

Jeanette was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and VFW Post 8945 Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, bowling, playing cribbage, listening to music and dancing.

Surviving are her children, Debra of Watton, Randall, Steven, and Matthew (Kortney Tarvainen) all of Covington; Special Friend Russell Salli of Watton; brothers, Gerald (Jean) Norback, Arthur (Sherry) Norback both of Watton, Ray (Tawnya) Norback of Covington; In-Laws James Lepola, Gloria Takala both of Watton, Nancy Perry of Covington, Wilbert Teikari of Munising, and Alice (Keith) Basto of Lake Linden; grandchildren Randall Lepola II of Covington, Melissa Lepola of Westland; five great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Melvin; daughter Susan Lepola; sister Judith Dalton; brother Melvin Norback; In-Laws Helen Lepola, Ken and LaVerne (Lepola) Manz, William Takala Jr., Loretta (Lepola) Knapp, and Luella (Lepola) Teikari.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Vicar Corey Harman officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the spring in the Covington Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A celebration of Jeanette’s life and luncheon are being planned for later this spring.
