Obituary: Jeanette Corrigan

As received from the Pearce Funeral Home:

Jeanette “Aunty Buck” Corrigan, 92 of Bootjack, left this earth on January 17, 2023, to be with our Lord and her loving family who went before her.  She was born and raised in Calumet to Jacob and Marie Johnson, immigrants of Norway, making her very proud of her Norwegian heritage.  She was born on December 25, 1930, the youngest of 9 sisters and 2 brothers, her oldest brother nicknamed his sisters with boy’s names.  Her nickname “Buck” followed her through her life; relatives and friends knew her as “Aunty Buck.”  Her grandchildren called her “Grandma Bootjack.”  The best Christmas present ever, she loved having a Christmas birthday, saying “everyone is happy on my birthday.”

On April 29, 1950 she married Thomas Corrigan.  They started their family in Calumet, MI, moved to Tamarack City, and after retirement, spent the next 37 years living at “the yellow house” in Bootjack, a home they built with hard work and love.  If you visited while they were building, you would often see her roofing, nailing or climbing a ladder with her 3” high heels on.

She loved being a homemaker, a wife, a mom, a grandmother and great-grandmother.  Bootjack was her favorite place and many get-togethers with family and friends and kids (especially kids) were enjoyed there.  She loved children and volunteered at daycares, teaching religion classes and as a leader of Boy and Girl Scout troops.

Surviving are: children-Thomas (Pat) Corrigan of Chassell, Lawrence Corrigan of Bootjack, Michael (Nancy) Corrigan of Bootjack, Edwin (Darlene) Corrigan of Bootjack, and Diane “Sissy” (Don) Wareham of Tamarack City; son-in-law-Joe Schneller of Bootjack; sister-in-law-Ginny Corrigan of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren;  along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband of 67 years-Thomas; daughter-Linda Schneller; sisters-Ragna Kamula, Gladice Matson, Anna Brown, Carrie Fretter, Marie Johnson, Lorraine Darcy, and Mildred Guilbault; brothers-Jim Johnson and Lawrence Johnson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of Mercy of Hubbell for their kindness, compassion and wonderful care during her short stay there.  You were angels on Earth before her departure.

She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 with Father Raju Jose to officiate.  Spring burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery.  The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is assisting the family.
