Jean E. Simila, 92, formerly of South Range, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Canal View-Houghton County in Hancock.
She was born on November 6, 1931 in Trimountain, Michigan to the late Edward and Emma (Johnson) Holappa. Following graduation from Jeffers High School in 1949, she worked as a teller at Superior National Bank and then at South Range State Bank until her retirement.
Jean was married to William Simila at Grace Lutheran Church in Baltic on May 15, 1955. He preceded her in death in 2005.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in South Range where she did volunteer work for funerals and at vacation Bible School. She also volunteered at the Copper Range Historical Society Museum in South Range.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by sisters Lyla and Esther, and brothers Wilfred and Paul.
She is survived by her two sons Mike (Mary) Simila and their children Jason (Rachelle), Thomas (Marisa), and Michael; and by John (Janet) Simila; great grandchildren Kelsey and Tyler; and nieces Kris Cuthberson and Kathy Pirkola.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Pastor Bucky Beach to officiate. Spring burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
Friends may call at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home for an hour before the funeral service on Saturday.
