Jean A. Kowalski, 88, a resident of Houghton passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Canal View — Houghton County.
She was born on November 4, 1934, in Lake Linden, MI, a daughter of the late Theophile and Delia (Paquette) Beaudoin. Jean was raised in Hubbell and attended the Lake Linden School. She left school at an early age to help work and raise her younger brothers.
She then moved to Milwaukee, for a short time before returning to the Copper Country. On August 27, 1955, she was united in marriage to Richard Kowalski. The couple resided in White Pine and the Houghton area while raising their family. In 2003, Richard preceded Jean in death.
Mrs. Kowalski was an active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton volunteering in the kitchen for many church functions. She also was a member of the Ranger Post #6165 VFW Auxillary of South Range, volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul store, enjoyed knitting crocheting and collecting Elvis Presley memorabilia.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her daughters, Brenda Lee and Patricia; her granddaughter Breanna; her brothers Allen and Bernard along with her parents.
Surviving are: Her children: Jerry (Eileen) Kowalski, Daniel Kowalski, Bonita (Ronald) Papke, Diane (Dan Klarich) Kowalski, Susan Kowalski; 13 grandchildren & 11 great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be held 11 am Friday, July 28, 2023, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
Friends may call on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 10 am until time of services at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton.
