Obituary: Janice M. Pirhonen

Janice M. Pirhonen, age 83, of L’Anse, MI passed away in L’Anse on Saturday, May 25, 2019. She was born in Pequaming, MI on September 3, 1935 the daughter of the late Edwin and Margaret (VanAble) Soli. Janice graduated from L’Anse High School in 1953. She married Richard F. Pirhonen, Sr in L’Anse on November 12, 1955. Janice had worked as a dental assistant until her retirement. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse, the Alston VFW Post #7646 Auxiliary and the Red Hatters. Janice enjoyed going to Mass, reading, walking and was an avid Red Wings fan.

Mrs. Pirhonen is survived by her loving husband Richard Pirhonen, Sr of L’Anse, children Richard (Joyce) Pirhonen, Jr of Toivola, Patty (Tim) Leemon of Marinette and Tammy (Dan) Lesatz of Marquette, grandchildren Sara (Daryl) Eifler of California, Tom Leemon of Colorado and Abby Patrikus (Jesse Lahti) of L’Anse, great grandchildren Mya, Rylie and Talan, brother Joseph Soli of California and sister Susie Lumsden of Sault St Marie. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Raymond “Chummer” Soli and her infant great grandson Austin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Corey Litzner, celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10 am until the time of the Mass. Immediately following Mass, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall. Interment will then take place in the Nisula Cemetery, Nisula, MI.
