UPDATE: A graveside service for James will be held on Thursday May 9, 2024 at 12:00 PM in the Calvary Cemetery located in Ahmeek, Michigan. The CCVA and Pastor Jared Howard will be preforming the service.
James Suhonen, 81 of Calumet passed away on Monday December 25, 2023, peacefully at his home with family by his side.
James was born on February 19, 1942 in Mohawk, Michigan to Victor and Mildred Suhonen. James attended school in Mohawk, and in Calumet. He married Marion (Seppanen) Suhonen, together they raised five children. He later married Kim (Kilpela) Suhonen in 2006 in their home in Lake Medora.
James had a great passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting along with camping. He had many musical talents that included, playing his guitar, banjo, and harmonicas. He was also a great cook and enjoyed grilling. James loved spending time with his family, especially at his home in Lake Medora. He loved the outdoors and spent countless hours outside with his buddy “Toby”.
James served in the Navy in the early 60’s. He worked many years as a mechanic, and also ran his own shop to support his growing family. He was a lay Minister at the Shepherd of the Sea in Copper Harbor Michigan. During his years he lived in Lake Medora.
James is proceeded in death by his parents, Victor and Mildred Suhonen. A brother Ronald and a sister, Patricia, and his first born Kimmy Lee. James is survived by his wife, Kim, and her children, Billy and John. Sons, Steven and Randall of Mohawk, Daniel (Cara) of Hancock, and daughter, Sherry (Bob) of Lake Medora. Numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren Amy, Jordan, Steven Jr., Hannah, Joshua, Carson, Sydney Lee, and Finn.
A visitation for James will be held at the Erickson Crowley Peterson funeral home on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM till 12:00 PM. With a funeral service and luncheon to follow. The burial will take place in the spring at the Calvary cemetery in Ahmeek, Michigan.
