James R. Noetzel Sr., 74, of Houghton and former Hancock resident passed away on Wednesday February 17, 2021, following a short illness.
He was born on May 24, 1946, in Hancock, a son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Richard) Noetzel. Jim was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1966.
Mr. Noetzel was a veteran having served with the United States Navy aboard the USS Wasp.
On July 19, 1966, he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Myre. The couple resided in Hancock where they raised their two children. Since 2014, the couple has made their home in Houghton.
Mr. Noetzel had worked at Northern Hardwoods, being able to retire in 1996, at an early age as a Foreman. In retirement he worked with dear friends Terry and Jean Gariepy making copper-based creations for the Copperland Gift Shop in Lake Linden.
He enjoyed building models and camping in the summer, especially at the Soo Locks Campground in Sault Ste Marie Michigan.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his brothers Bobby and Daniel along with Daniel’s wife Miriam.

His brother: Charles (Rachel) Noetzel of Akron, OH
His sister in law: Patricia (Myre) Schmidt of Round Rock, TX

A special thank you to UP Health System’s Hospice Care, especially his nurse Stacy, who provided much support and comfort during his brief illness.
