Obituary: James R. Manninen

James R. Manninen, 69, a resident of South Range, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his home with his family by his side. 

He was born on July 22, 1953, in Hancock, a son of the late Roy and Alice (Yrjana) Manninen.  James was raised in Dodgeville and attended the Houghton Schools.

Mr. Manninen was a veteran having served with the United States Marines from 1972 to 1973.  He then became a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Following the service Jim had worked as a truck driver for various construction companies in the area until his health would longer allow him to work.

On February 10, 2023, he was united in marriage to the former Sharon Anderson-Nixon.

Jim enjoyed anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, going for side-by-side rides traveling with his RV, and spending time joking with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. 

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother James Saari; his sister Christine Waltanen; his cousin, Mike Manninen and his uncle Donald Manninen.

            His wife: Sharon Manninen of South Range

            His children: Adam Manninen of Dodgeville

                                    Jacob Manninen of Manhattan, Kansas

                                    Nathan Manninen of South Range

            His step-children: Jeremy (Rebecca Ellenich) Keranen of Painesdale

                                                James (Jackie Dove) Nixon of South Range

                                                Sierra (Blaine Keteri) Nixon of Baltic

                                                Shania Nixon of Painesdale

                                                Neil Nixon of South Range

            His grandchildren: Ayden, LeAndra, Weston, Krew, Kinleigh, Kannon and Brant

            His brother: John Manninen of South Range

            Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

 A time to remember Jim and share stories will be held from 3 to 6:00 pm Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range with Military honors being conducted by the Copper Country Veterans Association at 6:00 pm.
