Obituary: James Howard “Jim” Tollefson

As received from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel:

To our loving dad, grandpa, and husband, James Howard “Jim” Tollefson.
Jim passed away the evening of May 2, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Hancock, MI on November 18, 1940 the son of the late Arne and Harriet (Johnson) Tollefson. Jim grew up on the family farm know as Arne’s Barn and helped his father bottle and deliver milk. He married the former Suzanne “Susie” Watters in L’Anse on July 20, 1962. Jim was a master plumber/pipefitter and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the plumbers and pipefitters Local 506 and a proud member of the NRA.

Jim was known by friends as Wrangler and Deadeye. Anyone who knew Jim admired his character. He was a family man of principle who touched everyone with his kind heart. He was present for his children and grandchildren for every sporting event and to show us how to fix something around the house. He was known to all the kids in the family as the “snickers man” because he had an endless amount of miniature snickers for all the kids at Second Sand Beach. Jim loved polka music, dancing, fishing, hunting, feeding and watching the birds and picking blackberries with his grandchildren. He was also an avid Packers fan. For every event with a band, family members enjoyed dancing with Jim and it was a special treat to hear him play the piano and accordion.

Jim looked forward to thirsty Thursday with his buddies and getting together with his nephews. Back in the day, they had some good adventures in the woods, hunting camp, and Isle Royal. If you are reading this, I am sure you are looking back and chuckling about the shenanigans you guys got into. Open a PBR in memory of Jim. Jim will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Susie, children James Tollefson (Susie), Bridget (Jeffrey) Collins, Debra (Dave) Lehto and Kathleen (Jay) LeClaire, grandchildren Amber Larson, Ashley Larson, Chelsey Yowell, Erika Tollefson, Kathleen Tollefson, Jimmy Collins and Jeff Collins, 7 great grandchildren and one on the way, numerous other relatives and his loyal dog Larry.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the arrangements.
