Obituary: James G. Floyd

Houghton –James G. Floyd, 51 a resident of Toivola passed away unexpectedly at his place of employment, Superior Block Co. on the morning of Wednesday, May 29th, 2019. He was born in Ontonagon on September 8, 1967, son of the late June and Jim Floyd. Jim’s early schooling took place in Ontonagon and later at Jeffers in Painesdale and in Houghton. Jim’s early employment included maintenance at the previous Maple Manor in Ontonagon, Nagel Lumber in Watersmeet and Gundlach Construction in Houghton.

Jim loved all animals. It was a privilege to keep the deer and wild turkeys fed while living on the farm near Misery Bay. He was an avid fan of nature and all aspects of birds and feeding them. Jim’s knack for handling any equipment was appreciated by all. He was mechanically inclined at all levels, including automotive and diesel and especially loved small engines, four wheelers and brush hogs and mopeds.

He was an avid fan of Seinfeld and knew the eccentricities of every episode, including an appreciation of many comedies and movies of all kinds.

He is sorely missed and loved by a wide circle of friends and co-workers around the Copper Country. Jim is survived by his love of eighteen years Jodi of Toivola, including cats Flash and Myles and brother Dan Rosandich of Houghton. He is preceded in death by grandparents Martha (2007) and Archie (1995) Simmons of Houghton, dogs Toby and Bear and also Milo.

Services are being held Wednesday, June 5th. At Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock with Pastor Bucky Beach of Good Shepard Lutheran Church and Campus Ministry officiating. Visitation begins at 5:00 to 6:00 PM and burial will take place at the Toivola Cemetery in Toivola with Pastor Bucky Beach also officiating at a later date to be determined.
