James F. “Jim” Kantola, age 73, of Covington, MI passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at UP Health System, Marquette, Marquette, MI. Jim was born in Detroit, MI on November 28, 1949 the son of the late Lawrence and Laila (Hill) Kantola. Jim graduated from L’Anse High School in 1967. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jim had worked for White Pine Mine and had been an operator in the heavy equipment industry. He was a lifetime member of the Covington VFW Post #8945. Jim enjoyed hunting, playing cribbage and being outdoors. He loved fishing.
Jim is survived by his son Jim (Pam) Kantola of Bruce Crossing, grandchildren Bryan Kantola of Ewen, MI and Jason (Katlynn) Kantola of Omaha, NE, great grandchildren Apple, Adrian, and Augustus, brothers Ronald (Cindy) Kantola of Pelkie, Dennis Kantola of Kenosha, WI, and David Kantola of Watertown, WI, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and his best friend and caregiver Cheryl Franti of Sidnaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Jason and John and sister-in-law Linda.
No funeral services are scheduled. Interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery.
